Communication and Language
The development of children's spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development. The number and quality of the conversations they have a day in a language-rich environment is crucial.
Children are encouraged to develop their language skills each day by carefully planned activities to promote discussions between staff and peers.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
Children's PSED is so important to lead healthy and happy lives. Children are supported to manage their emotions, develop a positive sense of self and be confident in their own abilities. We encourage children to form special bonds with others and learn how to communicate effectively.
Physical Development
Physical activity is vital in children's all -round development, enabling them to pursue active lives. We provide opportunities for play, both indoors and outdoors to develop strength, co-ordination and agility. Repeated and varied activities will promote fine motor skills, which are vital in preparing children's writing skills.
Literacy
It is crucial for children to develop a life-long love of reading. We promote this on a daily basis, starting with our "book of the week." Children will have constant access to our enticing reading area; a place where they can access a range of fiction and non fiction favourites in a calm and cosy space.
Mathematics
Developing a strong grounding in number is essential so that all children gain the necessary building blocks to excel mathematically. Our curriculum includes rich opportunities for children to learn reasoning skills, including shape, space and measure as well as number understanding.
Understanding of the World
Understanding of the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community. We regularly have conversations with the children about different cultures and the diverse world around them. Enriching and widening children's knowledge of the world also supports their communication and reading comprehension.
Expressive Art and Design (EAD)
The development of children's artistic awareness supports their imagination and creativity. We always provide a wide range of media and materials to allow children to express themselves through mark making, junk modelling, dance and music.
